The Silly Season Accumulator - part 7 (10th August, 2017)

My new series, called the Silly Season Accumulator, lists all the rumors that have ever been mentioned on the internet about Rayo. Yes - all of them. Just to show you how ridiculous this machine is - a machine that creates meaningless content masquerading as journalism.

If that's harsh, that's because the irony is that more rumors gives me more material. And that material gets in the way of the stories that matter.

Here's all the rumors between now and last time:

  • Néstor Susaeta has been linked with a move to Rayo. His contract expired with Real Oviedo. Edit: Albacete have signed him.
  • Girona are interested in both Johan Mojica and Álex Moreno, and have offered 2 million euros for the latter player.
  • José Carlos has been linked with a move to Rayo from Real Betis. Edit: Lorca FC have signed him on loan for a season
  • Rayo are interested in Eibar right-back Jordi Calavera, who was on loan at Lugo last season.

And here's all the rumors since last time (30th July):
  • Salva Sevilla, whose contract with Espanyol expired, is being tracked by Rayo, Granada and Almería.
  • Rayo Vallecano want Emiliano Velázquez for a season long loan deal. Edit: Getafe have signed him.
  • Rayo are one of 10 teams interested in Valencia's Nacho Gil.
  • Patrick Ebert has an offer from Real Oviedo.
  • Real Madrid's Sergio Díaz is being offered a loan move to Rayo.
  • Álex Bergantiños is a target for Sporting, Tenerife and Rayo. Rayo have been linked with him in the past - but Sporting are in a better position to sign him.
  • Alberto García is a target for Rayo. The Getafe goalkeeper still has two years remaining on his contract. A few days later, and talks of a loan deal are said to be all but confirmed. Edit: Done deal!
  • Goalkeeper Alejandro Remiro (Athletic Bilbao) has been linked with a move to Rayo, Huesca and Cultural Leonesa.
  • Răzvan Raț has taken a week off, and is reportedly negotiating his contract termination. Reportedly.
  • As of today, Johan Mojica has not trained for a day and left at the beginning of the training - reasons are unknown...
  • Manucho has reportedly declined to renew at Rayo. He is in Angola for personal reasons, and is considering offers from Israel, Mexico, Iran and South Korea.
  • Journalist Raúl Granado is saying that Del Valle and Nico Cañizares have left Rayo B and that Ontiveros, Moha, Amores, Raúl, Dani Ramos and Rivero will continue with Rayo B. No word from the club just yet.
  • 11th July preseason training fueled more speculation:
    • Raț and Castro were not present. Neither was Trejo.
    • Dorado was present.
    • Pablo Clavería and Manucho were not present - the club is still negotiating renewals.
    • The club have all but given up hope on Ebert, Miku, Toni Dovale and others.
    • Lucho, Chino, Espinosa, Akieme, Joni, Jean Jules and Pablo Villalón were all present from the B team. Pablo Villalón was just signed, but that means previous reports on Dani Ramos being a surprise inclusion were being optimistic - plus, Dorado renewed anyways. Also, looks like Joni Montiel will be promoted.
    • The following 19 were the ones present: Javi Guerra, Trashorras, Lass, Galán, Amaya, Álex Moreno, Embarba, Dorado, Comesaña, Aguirre, Mojica, Fran Beltrán, Lucho, Joni, Akieme, Jean Jules, Chino, Villalón and Espinosa. Which means Mojica might stay.
  • Kakuta is interested in coming back to Madrid. Rayo, Leganés and Getafe have all been offered the player.
  • Johan Mojica has been linked with a return to Columbia - Junior and Deportivo Calí are all interested.
  • Numerous outlets reporting that Zé Castro has rescinded his contract - but no word from the club yet.
  • 33-year-old Aitor Sanz has been linked to numerous Segunda clubs, including Rayo. He prefers to stay at Tenerife though.
  • Manucho's renewal has been complicated by economic factors - he is tempted to take a big paycheck in Asia before retiring.
  • Paulo Gazzaniga is now also linked to Nantes. And the deal is close - Claudio Ranieri's approval - reportedly - will be enough.
  • Free agent Gorka Elustondo of Athletic Bilbao is linked to Rayo - the player prefers staying in La Liga though.
  • Baena has reportedly accepted a better offer from Osasuna over Rayo.
  • Manucho has rejected the first offer on the table but the desire to renew is still there.
  • Dorado's renewal is all but closed - an official announcement is imminent.
  • Huesca striker Borja Lázaro is reportedly linked to a move to Rayo. He has a contract till 2019, but José Luis Ortas, Huesca's general director, has said there are no offers on the table.
  • Paulo Gazzaniga has been linked to a renewal of his loan spell for a second season.
  • Gorka Iraizoz was linked to Rayo and Osasuna but reportedly rejected both offers. He eventually signed for Girona in La Liga instead.
  • Following the success of Santi Comesaña, Rayo have their eyes on another Segunda B star midfielder - Pierre Kunde Malong, a Cameroonian who plays for Extremadura (on loan from Atlético Madrid).
  • Las Palmas' Javi Castellano, who has become a bit part player, has interest from Rayo, Cádiz, and Sporting, but has expressed his desire to renew with Las Palmas - his boyhood club and the club he has played for since 2011. And that's despite playing just 96 minutes this season.
  • Marco Sangalli from Mirandés is interested in joining Rayo, who is also linked to Valladolid, Numancia and Reus.
  • Embarba is being courted by Granada, Sporting and Pumas in Mexico.
  • Alberto Martín from Leganés has his contract expiring this summer, and has been linked too. Córdoba are also interested.
  • Rayo interested in signing Lugo striker Pablo Caballero.
  • Raúl Baena, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has been linked to Alcorcón.
  • Rayo want to keep Manucho, Baena, Ebert, Dorado, Nacho, Miku and Quini and Pablo Clavería - some might be announced as soon as the next few days! However,
    • Baena has interest from several La Liga and foreign teams - his renewal is "difficult"
    • Ebert is almost inevitably gone - Rayo simply cannot financially match what is being reportedly being offered by several other teams.
    • Manucho has interest from several teams in Israel, China and Portugal, but the renewal could be easier as Manucho has publicly said he'd like to stay.
    • Pablo Clavería is reportedly going to get promoted to the first team.
    • Other players, such as Nacho, Miku and Quini, are almost certain to renew.

Ismael Urzaiz and Salamanca. A 22 team La Liga. Trust and Víctor Casadesús (9th June, 2017)

Salamanca traveled to Albacete to compete for promotion to La Liga with an impossible task on their hands. They had to overturn a 2-0 deficit away from home, against a side that entered La Liga's relegation playoff spots on the final day, and who had scored 44 goals in the league - just four less than Salamanca themselves. As the clock ticked towards the 90th minute, Salamanca were winning 1-0 yet in danger of losing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Born in Tudela, Navarre, Urzaiz began his professional career at Real Madrid's B-side, making his debut in Segunda División in 1989. Despite being a successful youth international, he did not make any La Liga appearances for the first team (however, he did play one game against Odense BK, in the 1990–91 European Cup). Urzaiz spent the 1991–92 season on loan at Albacete Balompié, making his top flight debut when he came on as a substitute against Athletic Bilbao in October 1991. In early 1993, he was loaned to Celta de Vigo...

Non-league Incider: St Helens Town 3-0 Atherton Laburnum Rovers

Last game: 8th August: Dulwich Hamlet 2-1 East Thurrock United The previous day, I was blown away by my first ever football match experience. Dulwich Hamlet impressed me, but what impressed me more was the journey. The travel to the stadium was just as enjoyable as the football itself. I had caught the groundhopping bug. There were no games scheduled for the 9th of August. There was one, near Wigan, and all I had booked earlier was a refundable bus ticket from Manchester Airport leaving at quarter past midnight. I should have refunded it. This was a mistake. This whole day was a mistake. I was only slightly hungover from the previous night, but that was nothing compared to this feeling of loss - I couldn't handle the fact that there was a game happening. And I wasn't too far away. Just three hours and a bit. They'll fly by , I thought. I was in autopilot. Something within me made me get up, grab a bag, and get out the door. This wasn't me. I wasn't trave...

Non-league Incider: Cray Valley Paper Mills 4-4 Punjab United Gravesend

Last game: 9th August: St Helens Town 3-0 Atherton Laburnum Rovers After ripping up my groundhopping calendar, mostly because I was determined to avoid overnight travel, and partly due to other commitments, there was a period of time where non-league football took a backseat. But that period did not last long. Because of course it didn't. Secretly, I'd loved travelling over ten hours back-and-forth to watch some 10th division football. And this was 9th division football in London. When I had gone to East Dulwich exactly a week back , I had commented on how the amount of graffiti struck me as I watched from on board a southeastern train. I was going the exact same way, but much further this time - then I had stopped at Denmark Hill, now I would have to go six stations further. The graffiti I had thought was so emblematic of south London quickly disappeared, as did the tall buildings desperately cluttered together. We, and by we I mean me, were going to the suburb...
